SANGERVILLE, Maine — The Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a series of break-ins that occurred over the weekend.
At least two homes and about a dozen vehicles were broken into in downtown Sangerville, Detective Guy Dow said Wednesday. The crimes occurred between Saturday night and Monday morning, he said.
“On Sunday morning, we received reports of a couple of vehicles broken into,” said Dow. “As the day progressed, we received about a dozen [reports of] car break-ins.”
Property stolen from vehicles included loose change, credit cards, an expensive pair of glasses, cigarettes and a compound bow.
Two homes were also reported burglarized during the daytime and evening Sunday. Property taken includes Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 video game consoles, cash, a video camera, a guitar and a handgun.
Dow said he has checked with local pawnbrokers and gun stores in an attempt to find the stolen goods. There have not been any other reported burglaries in the area since Monday, he said.
Dow warned residents to lock their homes and cars.
“It’s not like these are abandoned houses; they knew [the residents] weren’t there,” said Dow.
Dow urged anyone with information about the burglaries to call the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department at 564-3304.
