BANGOR, Maine — The casket of Staff Sgt. Jessica Wing of Glenburn, who died Aug. 27 in Kuwait in an incident not related to combat, is scheduled to arrive Friday morning at the Army Aviation Support Facility at Bangor International Airport.

Wing’s body will be flown from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware and arrive in Bangor at about 9:30 a.m., according to Capt. Shanon Cotta, spokesman for the Maine Army National Guard.

Her body then will be escorted by motorcade — with Maine State Police leading the way and Maine Patriot Guard Riders following close behind — to the Augusta Armory, where funeral ceremonies will be held Saturday.

Visiting hours for Wing will be held at the Augusta Armory, 179 Western Ave., at 1 p.m. Saturday, and her funeral will begin at 2 p.m.

Wing, 42, a UH-60 Black Hawk crew chief for the Bangor-based 126th Aviation Medevac unit, was a helicopter mechanic with 23 years in uniform. She had made six overseas deployments, three while on active duty and three after moving back to Maine and joining the 126th Medevac unit — known as the “Black Bears” — eight years ago.

The cause of Wing’s death has not been released, Cotta said.

“The tragic incident is currently under investigation by the Department of Defense,” he said Wednesday. “This is a lengthy and highly detailed investigative process to accurately determine the circumstances of the incident.”

Maine’s first lady Ann LePage is planning to attend the funeral, but Gov. Paul LePage will not be able to attend because he is heading to China, spokeswoman Adrienne Bennett said Thursday.

A military committal service will occur directly following Wing’s funeral service at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, located at 163 Mount Vernon Road in Augusta.
