Comments for: LePage appoints departing Commissioner Beardsley to state education board

  • Anonymous

AUGUSTA, Maine — Former Husson University President Bill Beardsley learned in 2005 that the Rev. Bob Carlson “was not who he appeared to be,” according to a report released Wednesday about allegations that Carlson sexually abused minors.
In addition, students at the school had told Beardsley about abuse of students there, the Maine State Police report said.

Oh, for crying out loud.  You cover up for a child molester and keep getting rewarded! What a farce.  He needed to turn Carlson in and didn’t because he didn’t want it in the newspapers.  He allowed the sexual abuse to go on longer than it should have by not reporting what he knew.  Unbelievable.

    • Old Bear

Maybe him and Lepage can have a tea party over what really happen and why he do not turn skinner Carlson in. I would think the State Police would investigate Beardsley for not reporting this crime. Just don’t tell Sheriff Ross anything about the investigation until its over we know what he is like. Really bad move on Lepage’s part.

    • Anonymous

Just sickening…   he knew about this in 2005.

Still waiting for law enforcement to announce a formal investigation of this guys actions around  the Carlson sexual abuse scandal.  Oh, but wait, because we’re also still waiting for someone to announce a formal investigation of law enforcements actions around the Carlson sexual abuse scandal.  Hmmmm.

  • Anonymous

    Wow.  That’s all I’ve got.
    Wow.

  • Anonymous

While there may not be any penalties for not reporting what he knew, certainly this man should not be appointed to any position having anything to do with children as his priorities clearly are not with the children.

  • Anonymous

That is a very inappropriate appointment, even for the likes of LePage.

  • Anonymous

    The man has no shame….

  • Anonymous

Has LePage no shame at all??The man didn’t have the moral courage to tell what he knew and just let others children be molested! So, yes, let’s put him on the Education Board.Another well thought -out appointment.

  • Henderson bobby

Just what we need a child molester helper and condoner on the state education board.   This make me sick. Carlson should have been stopped but Beardsley and others look the other way.

  • Anonymous

Now how does this make sense?

Paul I believe in you, I voted for you, I’m a Democrat, I defended you many times over.  I hope you rethink this appointment. Nobody wants this man near anything to do with kids… You really want a commissioner for education, get a active school teacher who has excelled. The friggen problem is teachers never ever have had a chance to decide how schools should be run and they are the one doing all the work.

Just looked at wiki about Husson and found out Gov. LePage went there!

    • Anonymous

I’m with you on this one. I’ve been a supporter of LePage and I like some of the policies he has approved, but this is ridiculous. Just the negative press is enough not to appoint this guy let alone the sketchy past he has.

  • Anonymous

Your point is what? Only a government employee can do these jobs? Seems like a personal/political vendetta to me.

  • Anonymous

No K-12 education record and a history of ignoring kids very much in need. Sounds like a wise choice, LePage.

  • Anonymous

This is the problem with the education system in Maine.. its not the teachers, the administration or the kids,  It’s the POLITICS!

  • Anonymous

Once again, LePage makes a poor decision.  Shocking!  I forgot about Beardsley.  Hmm.  My first instinct was that LePage appointed yet another aging, white, male.  He apparently has little regard for women (Mayhew and his daughter are his only female appointeesI’ve heard of).  I appreciate his ads on domestic violence but …… I don’t buy it.  He’s a pig.   After a little research, it sounds like his new newest appointee was aware of Carlson’s issues and did nothing to address it.   Are these people really running our state???

  • Anonymous

Paul Lepage continuing to “put students first”   What a freakin joke. Bad mouthing all the hard-working teachers, administrators and staff in the entire State. How do you think former students felt about your remarks about education GOV ?

  • Anonymous

Funny…the positions seem to vanish, but the same people stick around

Thanks for putting the truth out there.  I had heard about the state pushing Fort Knox to be private.  I do not see how this will help Fort Knox survive in the future.  This is the beginning of the end for Fort Knox.  It cannot sustain itself.

    • Anonymous

You really have to be kidding! Please tell me you are just joking. I was simply reading the comments about Bill Beardsley, minding my own business. But your comments about Fort Knox lifted me off my chair. Privatizing Fort Knox is the beginning of the end for Fort Knox?  If it wasn’t for the citizens who wanted to keep this historic fort from crumbling into the ground, the state’s lack of maintenance and completely ignoring the damage that was occurring every year, would have resulted in the loss of this fantastic place years ago.

I am not a part of the Friends of Fort Knox and I am learning who some of their members are from your comments. But I have to admire whoever the folks are that have raised the money over the past 15 years to rehabilitate this historic site. I do know that it wasn’t from the Department of Conservation.

You may not like or agree with the members political affiliations. I get that. But let’s not throw the baby out with the bath water. I read many articles in the newspaper identifying the notion that was being floated for the Friends of Fort Knox to take over operation of Fort Knox. I certainly felt I could have influenced that decision by voicing my opinion IF I thought it was inappropriate. Anyone else had that same opportunity. It certainly wasn’t done overnight or in a smoke filled backroom.

I for one am very happy that there is an organization that feels compassionate enough about this historic facility to donate their time and energy to raise private funds to rehabilitate Fort Knox. If they feel, in the privacy of their own home, that the US should have a Vulcan president and they are supporting Spock, I’m OK with it.

What a surprise! Another hit piece by the BDN on a Republican!

    • Anonymous

The GOP makes it so easy!  All they have to do it open their mouths.

      • Anonymous

If the BDN had any desire to be even-handed, they could find a whole lot more material to report on from the left!

        • I am sure they could if they were in the business of digging up scandal.  Instead they are in the business of reporting news of the day.  Beardsley’s appointment (and his background and related current news) is news of the day.  If the Governor appoints someone from the left to a board or panel who is connected to a sexual scandal I am confident they will report that to. BTW I am republican who believes integrity should come before party loyalty.

          • Anonymous

Say what you will, but the BDN is clearly a left-leaning news organization.  It’s obvious from their editorials and the overall makeup of the news reporting.  I’m not questioning their right to lean Left, I’m just pointing it out to those who don’t realize it and think they are being objective in their reporting.

          • Henderson bobby

A sexual scandal and a pedophile are to different issues .

    • Anonymous

Are you denying the accuracy of this report, or just trying to change the subject?

      • Anonymous

I have no idea if the report is accurate.  All I’m saying is that left-wing media is all too willing to jump on a Republican if he even knows about a story that is of a sexual nature, but they’ll stay silent about a Democrat (Clinton, Edwards, any Kennedy) who is directly involved in sexual scandal.  Sexual abuse should be punished regardless of who it is that is guilty of it, even if it is a democrat, but the media often gives those on the Left a pass.

        • Hey pure illogic,
lets apply a little actual logic to your post.  If the media had not made any reports about Clinton, Edwards, etc. then you and the rest of the world would not have the knowledge of the events to be writing the post you wrote.  The fact that you can cite their sexual scandals is itself the proof that your assertion is false.  If your going to keep posting statements that are this transparently illogical at least choose a different name.

          • Anonymous

Hey, no need to get personal, but I realize that those on the Left need to belittle others when they are proved wrong.  The majority of the “mainstream” media ignored the sexual exploits of Clinton, Edwards, and all of the Kennedy’s, and only covered these scandals at a surface level.  Thankfully we had some smaller, independent media outlets who did the research to expose these men for what they were.  In spite of the well-established sexual abuse perpetrated by these men of the Left, they all managed to advance their careers in politics.  When a Republican gets caught in even an extra-marital affair, his own party gets rid of him.  The Dems seem to embrace their guys even more when they get caught.  There’s a double-standard in our country.

          • Henderson bobby

Clinton, Edwards and Kennedy were not pedophiles.

          • Anonymous

And neither is Beardsley.  There is strong evidence that Clinton abused Juanita Broaddrick & Kathleen Willey.

          • Henderson bobby

There is strong evidence Beardsley looked the other way and did not report…. Breaking the law in the process .

          • Hi,
just calling out inconsistency when I see it.  As far as your implication that my response was due to being on the left and being proved wrong you once again show illogic by engaging in ad homenin argument.  In fact I am a long time member of the republican party and old style conservative.    As far as your claim regarding parties getting rid of their offending members both parties have abandoned offending members and both parties have embraaced them.  For example you cite John Edwards as an example.  Seems to me that he is pretty well abandoned by his party following the revelation of his having affairs while married.  On the other hand Newt Gingrich continues to be embraced following his extramarital affairs (in fact he was at one time the front runner in this past years republican primary).  So factually your assertion is refuted.  But getting back to the question of logic it is important to note that you have moved the goal posts in the argument from the question of media bias to the question of party corruption.  Pretty subtly done I might add by first throwing in the distraction of the ad hominen argument.   In regards you original assertion on mainstream media bias.   By the way as long as you run with that screen name you are going to be inviting such critical analysis of your posts. In the same way that someone with a handle like Morallysuperior would invite similar critique of another kind.

          • Anonymous

You say you’re a conservative republican. I questioned that because I’ve never met a real conservative who resorted to personal name calling during a debate.  That’s usually a tactic of the liberal Left.

          • Anonymous

Just wanted to point out that those scandals had nothing to do with sexual abuse. They were about marital infidelity. There is a huge difference.

  • Anonymous

Well at least LePage believes in recycling. Yup he recycles LePage Cronies from one position to another. Same Tea Party Thugs, just in a different position.

  • Anonymous

He did not follow mandate reporting…..and now  on the board of education. I cannot imagine how parents must feel. I am so fortunate not to have a school age child.   Unbelievable…..its like a bad dream.

  • Lord Whiteman

Theses guys always cover up for each other.

  • Anonymous

This is great. i would guess that beardsley will take his huge state salary with him when he assumes his new position. His story keeps changing on the abuse issue. This is just the person i would want setting on my board. The good old boys club shows up again. The state saves no money by shuffeling positions and combining agencies if none of the top heavy management and other positions arent cut.It just doesnt make sense to me.

  • Anonymous

If you want to destroy any government service, just appoint people that have no credibility.

  • Anonymous

So this guy who should really be in jail for his lack of action gets a Lepage promotion – yup sounds about right for this laughing stock administration.

  • Anonymous

Just the guy for the Maine State Board of Education. Is there no interest in the state of Beardsley?

  • Anonymous

Someone please explain to me how Beardsley’s conduct was different from Joe Paterno’s in the scandal that got national attention and rocked Penn State earlier this summer.
