BANGOR, Maine — A couple of Hannaford stores were experiencing minor issues with their electronic payment systems Thursday, but spokesman Mike Norton said customers should not be alarmed.
“It’s a routine network maintenance thing,” he said.
The electronic systems at the store’s supermarkets in Hampden and on Union Street in Bangor would not allow customers to ask for cash back after paying for items with their debit or credit cards.
Norton said Thursday’s events are not related to an issue earlier this summer in which most of Hannaford’s 181 stores could not process electronic payments.
“It has the potential to happen anywhere,” said Norton. “Even in those two places it’ll probably change over the next few hours.”
Customers at the Union Street location had no problem paying for groceries with their cards shortly before 1 p.m. Thursday.
Norton said customers will be able to pay with their debit or credit cards throughout the remainder of the day.
