Phillips man injured in ATV rollover

BDN staff reports

PHILLIPS, Maine — A local man suffered chest and abdomen injuries Saturday afternoon after the ATV he was driving rolled on top of him.

Dennis R. Hanson, Sr., 57, of Phillips, was riding an ATV with his nephew as his passenger on a local ATV club trail in Madrid off Railroad Road on Saturday, according to a Maine Warden Service press release.

After Hanson’s nephew got off the ATV, Hanson attempted to turn around by backing up when the ATV went over an embankment. The ATV then rolled on top of Hanson, according to the release.

At 12:36 p.m., game wardens responded to the call for an ATV accident and Hanson was transported by NorthStar Rangeley ambulance to a nearby airport where he was then flown by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with chest and abdomen injuries. Hanson also complained of back injuries.

Hanson’s condition was not immediately known.

Wardens Jonathan Parker and Reggie Hammond were assisted by NorthStar Rangeley and Phillips Fire and Rescue.

The incident is under investigation by the Maine Warden Service.
