Portland ocean swim competition draws 350

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — Hundreds of swimmers are braving the cold ocean waters for the 31st annual Peaks to Portland swim.

Saturday’s 2.4-mile open-water competition has attracted 350 entrants, 189 of whom are swimming the event for the first time.

The race begins Saturday morning at Peaks Island in Portland Harbor and ends at the city’s East End Beach.

The competition is a major fundraiser for the Cumberland County YMCA, with the raised money going toward its financial assistance program.
