YARMOUTH, Maine — Clams are taking center stage as the Yarmouth Clam Festival gets under way.

More than 100,000 people are expected at this year’s Yarmouth Clam Festival, which kicks off Friday and winds up Sunday. The festival is now in its 47th year.

Festival-goers each year go through more than 6,000 pounds of clams, along with 6,000 lobster rolls, 6,000 strawberry shortcakes and 1,500 shore dinners.

Besides food, the festival features a parade, carnival, arts and crafts, entertainment, fireworks and a clam-shucking contest.
