CARIBOU – Eugene "Jim" Philbrick, 71, died June 27, 2012, at his residence after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Dec. 1, 1940, in Caribou, son of the late Eugene "Gene" and Flora (Violette) Philbrick.

He was a 1958 graduate of Caribou High School as well as a graduate of Southern Maine Technical Institute. Jim was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Caribou for more than 37 years, retiring in 2002. After his retirement he enjoyed part time employment at Clukey’s Auto Supply. Jim was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at his Cross Lake camp. For many years he would take his vacation and work the potato harvest for Leavitt Farms.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Valerie (Smith) Philbrick of Caribou, are two daughters and a son-in-law, Michele Theriault of Caribou and Lacy Philbrick-Turnbull and her husband, Seth, of Brunswick; a stepdaughter, Dawn Corey of Easton; two stepsons, Jamie Turner of Perth Andover, New Brunswick, and Gregory Turner of St. John, New Brunswick; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Florina Willis of Hampden, Ruth and Ken Bryant of Winthrop and Janet Chandler of Lincoln; his grandchildren, Tyler Theriault and his dad, Todd Theriault, and Isabelle Philbrick-Turnbull; stepgrandchildren, Marshall and Austin Turner, Andrew Corey and Ariana Marshall; several nieces and nephews; and his two special friends, Lin Lord and Everett Cole.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday from the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Anthony Scott officiating. Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery.
