Police identify man killed in fiery Somerville crash

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

SOMERVILLE, Maine — Police have confirmed the identity of a man who was killed in a one-car accident in Lincoln County last week.

Nikhil Andrew Rodrigues, 27, of Somerville was killed in the June 14 crash, Chief Deputy Ken Mason of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

Rodrigues’ identity was confirmed by DNA testing after an autopsy was conducted on his body, Mason said.

Rodrigues, a native of India who had recently become a U.S. citizen, was traveling on Somerville Road to a friend’s house when his vehicle left the road and struck a tree.

The vehicle burst into flames, but Mason said that the impact of the crash killed Rodrigues, not the fire.

Police are still investigating why Rodrigues’ vehicle left the roadway.
