Johnny Clark wins John Phippen Memorial Race at Unity Raceway

UNITY, Maine — Johnny Clark of Farmingdale made his first appearance in a couple of years pay off, earning more than $2,500 with a victory in the Twin 59s In Memory of Big John Phippen on Sunday at Unity Raceway.

Clark, who won the first 59-lap race, outpointed second-race victor Frank Moulton of Burnham for the overall victory. Liberty’s Josh St. Clair was third overall, with the top five filled out by Palmyra’s Ajay Picard and Dylan Turner of Freedom.

“This victory means a lot, both to me and my father,” said Clark. “He won a race here in 1981 and in tech they thought there’s no way he could beat John Phippen without cheating.

“When I won my first Pro Stock race at Wiscasset it was John Phippen who finished second.” That race was a 150-lap special event, when Clark was just 17-years-old.
