Steve Calande, who resigned last week as the head football coach at Old Town High School, has landed a new job.

Calande has been named the head football coach and physical education teacher at East Catholic High School in Manchester, Conn., replacing Bill Baccaro, who resigned in April.

Calande met his new players for the first time last Friday.

“We simply could not have selected a finer coach, better teacher, or a more honorable man for the position,’’ East Catholic athletic director Tom Malin told the Journal Inquirer of Manchester, Conn. “Coach Calande will not only teach the fundamentals of the game, but will also teach the values of participating in sports that our football players will take with them for the rest of their lives upon graduation.’’

Calande coached at Old Town for the last two seasons, guiding the Coyotes to a 6-3 record in the LTC Class C ranks in 2010, the program’s first winning season since 1997. Old Town went 2-6 last year after moving back up to the Pine Tree Conference Class B division.

Calande has family ties to the Manchester, Conn., area, one of his primary reasons for taking the new job.

East Catholic High finished with a 2-8 record in 2011 after going 3-7 in 2010.
