PRESQUE ISLE – Elmer E. Whittaker Sr., 80, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at Maine Veterans Home, Caribou. He was born Aug. 14, 1931, in Presque Isle, son of Elmer L. and Laura (Henderson) Whittaker.

Elmer served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean War, and upon his discharge, married Carolyn Cook with whom he would share 44 years of marriage. He worked for more than 30 years at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. He enjoyed his family most of all, and will be greatly missed by them.

He leaves behind five children, Rose Whittaker, Elmer Jr. and wife, Karla, all of Presque Isle, Mary Rochelle of Sevierville, Tenn., John and wife, Kimberly, of Mapleton, and Tammy Turgeon and husband, John, of Brewer, grandchildren, Jared, Nicole, Mackenzie, James, Benjamin, Ryan, Jeniferlyn, Katherine, Aimee and Nick; and great-granddaughter, Keri. He also leaves behind a sister, Dorothy Moore of Dover-Foxcroft; and brother, Frank of Caribou. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn (Cook) Whittaker; as well as several brothers and sisters.

Friends may call 2 p.m. until time of funeral service 3 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with Landi Piper officiating. Interment will take place after the service at Marshall Cemetery, Westfield. Condolences may be expressed at
