BANGOR, Maine — A local transient was arrested Sunday for felony theft after he grabbed two comic books from Fairmount Market on Hammond Street and left the store without paying for them, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said.

John Barlow, 35, who lists his address as the Hope House, a Bangor shelter for people struggling with drugs and alcohol, was caught by police at around 11:55 a.m.

“He was arrested for felony theft because he has a couple recent theft convictions,” Edwards said.

Barlow was convicted of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer in January and ordered to spend 48 hours in jail, according to court listings printed in the Bangor Daily News. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
