Senate approves LePage nominee for PUC

AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage’s nominee to fill a vacant seat on the Maine Public Utilities Commission has won Senate confirmation.

The Senate voted 33-0 Tuesday to support a recommendation by the Committee on Energy, Utilities and Technology to confirm Mark Vannoy to the commission. Vannoy, an engineer from Waldoboro, currently works as associate vice president of Wright-Pierce engineering firm.

Vannoy will serve through March 2013 to complete the term of Vendean Vafiades. Vafiades has retired from state service after five years on the commission.

The Public Utilities Commission regulates electric, natural gas, telecommunications and water utilities.
