Union races still in flux

By Stephen Betts, BDN Staff

UNION, Maine — With the deadline Monday for candidates to make the June town ballot, there are no contested races, but there are people who have taken out papers that have not yet been returned.

Incumbent Gregory Grotton has filed his nomination papers for the Board of Selectmen to make the June 12 ballot.

Three other people — Doris Vertz, Sara Moore and Walter Ashworth — have taken out papers but have yet to return them. The seat is for two years.

A three-year selectman seat on the June ballot is held by John Gibbons, who is not seeking re-election.

Former Selectman Abraham Knight has returned papers for that position. Vertz and Moore also have taken out papers for this seat but not returned them.

Candidates may file for only one seat.

Ann Donaldson is running uncontested for a single seat to represent Union on the RSU 40 board. The seat is held by Sherrie Clark, who did not seek re-election.

Treasurer Linda McAllister is uncontested for re-election.
