Bangor man accused of assaulting wife, stepdaughter

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A local man was arrested early Wednesday morning after he allegedly assaulted his wife and his 16-year-old stepdaughter, according to police.

Authorities were called to a Sanford Street address at 11 p.m. Tuesday for an assault report, and when they arrived the suspect, Bertrand Cote, 34, had taken off, according to Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards.

At 3:30 Wednesday morning Cote’s wife called police and said he had returned to the home, Edwards said. Police responded and arrested him.

Cote is facing two charges of domestic violence assault. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where Edwards said he remained Wednesday.

Cote faces up to a year in prison on each count if convicted.

Neither female required medical attention.
