Fire damages Bar Harbor apartments

By Kevin Miller, BDN Staff

BAR HARBOR, Maine — An early morning fire damaged two apartments in Bar Harbor and filled several others with smoke on Saturday.

The fire was reported in a unit on Compass Harbor Lane at 1:50 a.m. Saturday. Assistant Fire Chief Matt Bartlett of the Bar Harbor Fire Department said the cause of the fire was still under investigation but that it appeared to have started on the porch.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the blaze, which damaged the porch, decking and exterior wall of the unit. A second unit also received minor damage, and several other units had to be ventilated because of the smoke, Bartlett said.

Several people were in the apartment where the fire started but they were able to escape. No one was injured.
