Sanford police seeking suspect after report of attempted sexual assault

By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

SANFORD, Maine — The Sanford Police Department is asking the public for help with an investigation into what investigators say may have been an attempted sexual assault on an 18-year-old woman Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred near the Sherwin Williams store on Main Street in Springvale between 7 a.m. and 7:20 a.m., Deputy Police Chief Timothy Strout said in a news release issued Wednesday afternoon.

The victim, who was walking on Main Street, reportedly was forced onto a trail that leads to the rear of the business, Strout said. She was not injured during the incident.

The incident is considered isolated at this time, Strout said.

The suspect is described as a white male in his early to mid-30s, 6 feet tall, 300 pounds with dark hair and sideburns. He was wearing a leather jacket, tan baseball cap, pants and work boots at the time of the assault.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call Detective Matt Johns of the Sanford Police Department at 324-9170.
