NEW LONDON, N.H. — Nate Adams pitched a six-hit shutout with one walk as Husson University defeated Colby-Sawyer College 2-0 in the first game of a baseball doubleheader Saturday.
The Eagles (11-12) completed the sweep with a 7-4 win in the second game.
In the first game, Husson tallied both of its runs in the second inning. Shawn Smith scored from third on a balk and Josh Tardiff knocked in a run on a single. Benjamin McLain finished with a double and a single while Jake Arthers had two singles.
In the second game, the Eagles erupted with six runs in the third inning. Casey Estes highlighted the inning with a two-run single. Dylan Foster posted an RBI double while McLain added a solo home run in the fifth.
Huskies win two
At North Dartmouth, Mass. on Saturday, John Carey went 7-for-9 with five runs scored and four RBIs as the University of Southern Maine swept a doubleheader with the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.
The Huskies won the first game 14-6 and the second game 9-5.
In the first game, Carey registered a double, three singles and two RBIs for the 11-10 Huskies. David Ricker posted two doubles and home run with five RBIs. Jake Glauser hit a home run, a double and a single with two RBIs while Nick Grady added a solo home run and two singles.
In the second game, Carey led USM with two doubles, a single and two RBIs. Tucker White had two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs. Grady chipped in with an RBI double.
Thomas sweeps Lyndon
At Lyndon Center, Vt. on Saturday, Thomas Cameron sparked Thomas College with a two-run single in the first inning as the Thomas College blanked Lyndon State College 5-0 in the opening game of a doubleheader.
The Terriers rolled to a 10-0 victory in the nightcap.
In the opener, Danny Burke tossed six innings, allowing no runs on four hits to earn the win for 14-9 Thomas. Cameron finished with three RBIs. Josh Gray posted a double, two singles and an RBI. Cody Vigue chipped in with three singles.
In the nightcap, Eric Sucy pitched six innings, giving up just one hit for the Terriers. Vigue hit two doubles and a single with an RBI. Jeff Richardson had three singles and an RBI while Josh Gray doubled twice with two RBIs. Ethan Hurley added two singles and two RBIs.
Bowdoin sweeps Bates
At Lewiston on Saturday, Bowdoin limited Bates to four hits in both games as the Polar Bears swept a doubleheader with Bobcats.
Bowdoin took the first game 3-0 and won the second game 6-1.
In the first game, Oliver Van Zant pitched a complete game for the 13-8 Polar Bears, allowing four hits and no walks with nine strikeouts. Erik Jacobsen hit three singles and knocked in a run. Jordan Edgett doubled and singled while Luke Regan drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
Mekae Hyde, Kevin McGregor, Kevin Davis and Jeff Clausen each singled for 12-10 Bates.
In the second game, John Lefeber hit a three-run home run and an RBI single to spark Bowdoin. Dan Findley hit three singles and knocked in a run. Buddy Shea added a doubled and a single.
Griff Tewksbury led the Bobcats with a double, a single and an RBI.
UMF drops two
At Castleton, Vt. on Saturday, Castleton State College swept a doubleheader with the University of Maine at Farmington, winning the opening game 4-0 and taking the nightcap 7-2.
In the opener, Dakota Aker pitched a no-hitter with one walk and eight strikeouts to power 15-8 Castleton to the victory. Joe Borowski posted a triple, a single and an RBI.
Brandon Gallagher pitched five innings for the 3-13 Beavers, allowing three runs on four hits.
In the nightcap, Ryan Zielinski registered a double, two singles, an RBI and a stolen base to lead Castleton to the win.
Colin Mello and Brett Wallingford each hit two singles for UMF. Matthew Woodbury drove in a run.
Colby sweeps Brandeis
At Waltham, Mass. on Saturday, Colby College rallied from a four-run deficit to score six runs in the top of the seventh inning and post a 13-11 victory over Brandeis University in the first game of a doubleheader.
The Mules (9-9) topped Brandeis in the second game 7-1.
In the first game, Colby took advantage of four Brandeis errors to score six unearned runs en route to the win. Devlin McConnell hit a game-tying grand slam in the fifth, along with two singles. Robb Arndt hit a three-run double and Alec Finigan added a two-run double.
In the second game, Luke Duncklee was 4-for-5 with four singles and an RBI for the Mules. Taro Gold hit three singles and drove in two runs. Dakota Rabbitt and Abhi Chandal combined to allow one run on six hits.
