HANCOCK, Maine — A rollover traffic accident Friday morning at the intersection of Route 1 and Washington Junction Road resulted in traffic being diverted temporarily but only a minor injury for the driver.

The driver, Dusten Phippen, 21, was turning right off Washington Junction Road onto Route 1 shortly after 10:30 a.m. when he lost control of the Ford Ranger pickup truck, causing it to roll onto its driver’s side. Deputy Larry Fickett of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said Phippen told him the accident happened when the truck’s brakes malfunctioned. Fickett did not know the year the truck was made but said it was an older model.

Phippen was wearing a bandage on his left hand after the accident and appeared not to have suffered any other injuries. Fickett said Phippen was wearing a seat belt when the truck rolled. The deputy said he wasn’t sure what town Phippen lives in but he is a Hancock County resident.

Westbound traffic on Route 1 was diverted onto Washington Junction Road for about 30 minutes as firefighters and other response personnel cleaned up debris and removed the truck from the road.
