BANGOR — Dale Winchenbach scattered four hits to lead the UMaine-Farmington Beavers to a 4-2 baseball victory over the Husson University Eagles in the first game of a doubleheader at the Winkin Complex Thursday.
Husson won the second game 9-8.
In the first game, Winchenbach allowed only two walks and struck out four to spark the Beavers. He aided his own cause with two hits.
Ethan Jean hit a two-run double in the third inning for UMF. Winchenbach scored the Beavers’ first run in the first when he singled, advanced to second on a passed ball and to third on a sacrifice bunt before scoring on an error. Jack MacVane had a sacrifice fly in the seventh.
Jake Arthers had two hits to lead Husson, which scored single runs in the first and second on RBI singles by Nick Lancisi and Benjamin McLain, respectively.
In the second game, Josh Tardiff paced 8-11 Husson with a three-run home run while Casey Estes chipped in with two hits and two RBIs. Austin Clark notched the win and Kyle Bishop earned a save.
The Eagles scored five runs in the fourth inning on Tardiff’s three-run homer, a sacrifice fly by Dylan Foster and an RBI triple by Niko Ververis.
Winchenbach notched two hits and an RBI for 3-9 UMF.
Salem State 12, USM 1
At Salem, Mass., Nick Conti hit a home run, double, and single and drove in four runs to lift Salem State by the University of Southern Maine.
Salem State notched its sixth straight and improved to 17-5 while USM dropped its second in a row and slipped to 9-10.
Salem State’s Ryan Hyjek four-hit the Huskies, striking out four.
USM scored its run in the second when Jake Glauser blasted a ground-rule double and came around to score on a single by Troy Thibodeau.
