BANGOR — Nate Pajka and Kevin McGregor drove in four runs apiece and the Bates College baseball team pounded out 23 hits to beat Husson University 20-15 Tuesday at the Winkin Complex.
Pajka had a homer, double and single and McGregor doubled and singled twice for 10-5 Bates. Jeff Clausen had two doubles and two singles, Mike Ciummei and Mekae Hyde had three hits apiece and Griff Tewksbury, Sam Maliska and Kevin Davis had two each.
Jason Smith had a pair of triples, a double and a single and drove in four runs for 7-7 Husson.
Dylan Foster, Kyle Vanidestine and Nick Lancisi had two hits each and Cody McInnis homered and knocked in three runs.
UMPI 11, Phil.-Biblical 6
At Langhorne, Pa., Cam Morrell’s bases-loaded two-run double in the eighth snapped a 2-2 tie and helped lead UMaine-Presque Isle to victory.
UMPI snapped a 10-game losing streak as it ended up scoring six runs in the eighth as Carlos Villoria chipped in with a two-run single.
Justin Bergeron notched an RBI double for the 2-13 Owls and Joshua Gale added a two-run single. Ted Walker contributed two hits and an RBI.
At Dover, Del., on Monday, Sam Farnell drove in seven runs with a double and a grand slam to lead Wesley past UMPI 18-2.
The Wolverines (15-7) scored 10 runs in the third inning to put the game away.
Jordan Duffy hit a solo home run for UMPI (1-13), Shane Smith tripled and Carlos Villoria had a sacrifice fly.
Wis.-Whitewater 5, USM 0
At Winter Haven, Fla., Kyle Stewart pitched a four-hit shutout to propel the Warhawks to victory over the Huskies.
Stewart struck out seven and walked one and was backed by a 16-hit onslaught. Jared Fon paced Wisconsin-Whitewater (6-4) with four singles and an RBI while J.T. Schneider and Mike Mierow (double) each posted three hits with an RBI.
Forrest Chadwick singled twice for the University of Southern Maine of Gorham (6-6). John Carey added a double behind losing pitcher Greg Holmes.
USM loses two
At Clermont, Fla., the Mount Mercy College Mustangs and No. 12 nationally ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks each defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies, 4-2 and 10-0, respectively.
USM scored both of its runs in the third inning in the first game when Kaylie DeMillo doubled, Stefanie Stockwell singled and both scored on a single by Annie Mitchell.
Mount Mercy responded in its half of the inning when Liz Hill hit a two-run double, and then added single runs in the fifth and sixth.
In the second game, the Warhawks pounded out 10 hits, including four doubles, to roll by USM, which slipped to 0-8.
UNE sweeps twinbill
At Biddeford, Kelly Reid improved to 4-1 as she allowed only five hits and two walks while striking out six to lead the University of New England by New England College 8-0 in the first game of a doubleheader. UNE completed the sweep with a 7-4 victory in the second game.
Ashley Gott doubled and singled for UNE in the first game as the Nor-easters sent runners across the plate in five of the six innings.
Allie Frazier hit a two-run double and RBI single for 8-4 UNE in the second game and Maegan Johnson added a two-run double.
Rachel Ryder and Rachel Otto both had three hits in two games for NEC.
UMPI loses 2 games
At Emory, Va., on Monday, Emory & Henry College swept the UMaine-Presque Isle Owls 10-0 and 5-0.
Emory & Henry jumped out to a five-run lead after the first inning en route to the five-inning win in the first game.
Jennifer True hit a two-run home run to pace Emory & Henry in the second game while Carolynn Tuck sparked UMPI (1-10) with two hits and a stolen base. Winning pitcher Brandy Bryant struck out 14.
