KNOX, Maine — A Mexican national who was accused last week of unlawfully sexually touching a teenage girl will be deported, according to police.
Arturo Ramirez, 38, who had been working at a farm in Knox for quite some time, was arrested on Wednesday, March 21, and charged with unlawful sexual touching and domestic violence assault, Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office said Monday.
The daughter of the woman Ramirez was living with disclosed to school officials that he had been sexually inappropriate with her and also had assaulted her, Trafton said.
Investigating officers learned that Ramirez was here illegally, and the Waldo County District Attorney’s Office has decided not to prosecute the sex crime but instead to deport him.
Trafton said that he believed officials from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have already taken custody of Ramirez.
