Maksut leads Thornton Academy to ‘A’ hockey title

LEWISTON, Maine — Senior captain C.J. Maksut had three goals and an assist Saturday evening as Thornton Academy of Saco won its second straight Class A hockey state championship with a 5-1 victory over Saint Dominic of Auburn.

Thornton finished its season with a 20-1-1 record after defeating Saint Dom’s for the third time this winter, while the Saints ended their season with a 15-7 record.

Adam Carignan added a goal and two assists for coach Jamie Gagnon’s Trojans, while Greg Lodge had a goal and an assist and Nick Chen and Robbie Deering each had an assist.

Joe Ferrante earned the victory in goal, with Saint Dom’s Troy Haefele the only goal scorer against him.
