Portland Pirates to play some games in Lewiston during civic center work

The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — The owner of the Portland Pirates says the team will play some games in Lewiston next season while its home arena undergoes renovations.

Owner Brian Petrovek tells The Portland Press Herald the American Hockey League team will play a “handful” of games at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee in Lewiston during work on the Cumberland County Civic Center. He did not have an exact number, saying it depends on the renovation schedule and the AHL schedule.

He says the move will also help the team expand its fan base.

The Civic Center is expected to determine the schedule for the $33 million renovation soon.

The Pirates are the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes.
