The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Maine — The acting police chief in Maine’s largest city is ready to assume the job on a permanent basis.

Acting Chief Michael Sauschuck will be officially sworn in as Portland’s 19th police chief on Monday after being confirmed by the City Council last month.

Sauschuck has been serving as acting chief since Chief James Craig left in August.

He will oversee a department comprised of 162 sworn officers, more than 50 civilian staff and an annual budget of more than $13 million.
