Boetsch to face Okami in UFC 144 bout Saturday night

Lincolnville native Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch will return to the octagon in Japan on Saturday night, challenging veteran Yushin Okami in a middleweight mixed martial arts bout as part of the UFC 144 card in Tokyo.

The 31-year-old Boetsch, a former four-time wrestling state champion while at Camden-Rockport High School in Rockport, is 14-4 overall in MMA competition, 5-3 in UFC matches.

Boetsch, at 5-foot-11, 186 pounds, is 2-0 since moving down from light heavyweight to middleweight (185 pounds), and is coming off a unanimous decision over Nick Ring in UFC 135 last September in Denver, Colo.

Boetsch faces a major challenge in Okami, currently ranked third in the UFC middleweight decision. Okami, 26-6 overall and 10-3 in the UFC, has been idle since last August since he lost a second-round technical knockout to UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 134 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The UFC 144 card is available on pay-per-view.
