RUMFORD, Maine — The Mt. Blue girls and Falmouth boys captured the Class A state ski titles Friday after three days of competition and four events at Black Mountain.
Mt. Blue of Farmington finished with 214 points to capture the girls titles while Falmouth collected the boys crown with 177 points.
The Falmouth girls finished second and were followed by Oxford Hills of South Paris (302), Greely of Cumberland Center (405), Leavitt of Turner (437), Freyburg Academy (469), Edward Little of Auburn (534) and Windham.
In skiing, the lowest scores determine the winners as scores are based on each skier’s finish, with one point for first, two for second and so on in ascending order.
The Mt. Blue boys finished second in the the team competition with 181 points and were followed by Oxford Hills (355), Leavitt (438), Fryeburg (458), Edward Little (487), Greely (535) and Hampden Academy.
The skimeister titles were awarded to Mt. Blue’s North Kay in the boys competition and Greely’s Elyse Dinan in the girls events. The skimeister title goes to the top competitor who does all four championship events in the ski meet.
Kay turned in a score of 48 to capture the boys crown as he finished eighth in the slalom and 12th in the giant slalom, along with finishes of 11th and 17th in the cross-country events of freestyle and classical, respectively.
Rounding out the skimeister competitors were Deering’s Jakob Chandler (70), Mt. Blue’s Max Kay (98), Fryeburg’s Adam Armington (131), Greely’s Luke Wilcox (183) and Richard Judge (187), Scarborough’s Anders Jepson (217) and Hampden’s Maximillian Trostel (271).
In the girls skimeister, Dinan used a third-place finish in the giant slalom to capture the title. She also finished 42nd in the slalom and 44th and 45th in the cross-country events. She was followed by Fryeburg skiers Kelsey Lijedah (146) and Eleanor Jones (199).
