BREWER – Edith C. Stewart, 74, went to the loving arms of our Savior Feb. 20, 2012. Edith was born March 3, 1937, in New Brunswick, daughter of the late Ernest and Estelle Walsh.
Edie worked more than 30 years for the Bangor School Department, where she was lovingly known as Mrs. Stewie, and in her healthier years, a longtime volunteer for the YMCA. Edie was a loving mother and grandmother whose grandchildren were her world.
Edie is survived by three loving children, Thomas Daniel Stewart and his wife, Dallas, of Hampden, Ronald Stewart of Bangor and Marie Stewart and Peter Downing of Brewer; daughter-in-law, Karen Stewart of Bangor; grandchildren, Paul, Kimberly, Thomas, Jordan and Joseph; sisters, Hazel Gagon of Montreal, Kathleen O’Hara of Brewer and Phyllis Green, of North Carolina; brother, Paul Walsh and his wife, Celeste, of New Hampshire; sister-in-law, Hazel Walsh of Bucksport; brother-in-law, Raymond Sauriol of Ontario; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Harry D. Stewart, she was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, Harold and Arthur; and sisters, Norma and Mildred.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. John Catholic Church, 207 York St., Bangor. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
