WATERVILLE, Maine — Waterville police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the owner of a dog that bit a Colby College student on Feb. 9.

While cross-country skiing on the Colby College campus, the student was bitten by a loose dog described as a black Lab, according to a Waterville police statement. The dog’s owner is described as a woman with white hair in her mid-40s to mid-60s. She left the area without identifying herself.

The student is undergoing a series of rabies shots because police were not able to verify if the dog had been vaccinated.

Anyone with information regarding the dog or its owner is asked to call the Waterville Police Department at 680-4700 for Animal Control Officer Chris Martinez, or Colby Security at 859-5530.

If it can be confirmed that the dog is vaccinated, the student can forgo the rest of the rabies shots.
