Wedding expo slated for Feb. 11-12 at Bangor Mall

Winter and spring are the time for proposals and wedding planning. Most bridal shows will be held at event centers or hotels, but local event planners Paula Paradis and Dorain Foster decided to take a different approach.

The Paradis and Foster Wedding Expo will be held at the Bangor Mall on Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 11-12; the hours will be 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday, and 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Sunday.

And admission will be free to engaged couples and the public alike.

Some 40 vendors will be present to help engaged couples — and those couples thinking about marriage — learn the latest information about wedding planning and trends. Among the vendors that will set up at the mall’s center court are The Henry’s Bridal Boutique and Formalwear, Bronson Audio Visual, Dana Lavertu DJ, Marry ME Magazine, Paradis and Foster, Bell Imaging & Design, and Digital Workshop.

According to Foster and Paradis, there will be something for everyone. On Saturday, there will be a 4 p.m. runway bridal show maintained by The Henry’s with a performance by the Opus Trio at 3 p.m..

On Sunday, several mall stores will hold runway fashion shows:

• 1 .pm., New York and Company;

• 2 p.m., Deb’s;

• 3 p.m., Anthony John’s Day Spa (hair fashion);

• 4 p.m., The Henry’s Bridal Boutique and Formalwear.

Brides registering at center court with Paradis and Foster will receive a bag full of tools to help them plan their wedding.

“What we’re trying to create is a full wedding experience,” Paradis said. “The difference between our event and other shows is that we view ours as an event, so there’s going to be action. For instance, the Opus Trio [a Bangor-area string trio] will play before the bridal gown fashion show. It would be the same flow that would happen at a wedding. This expo will not be just vendors.”

Paradis and Foster launched Paradis and Foster Event Management this past summer. Foster has a strong sales background, and she and husband, Bion, formerly owned The Lucerne Inn. Paradis has extensive experience in event management.

Paradis and Foster believed the Bangor Mall would be an excellent location for a wedding expo. Foster contacted Kim Reed, general manager of the Mall and proposed the idea. “Within a half hour she contacted me, saying ‘yes’,” Foster said. Marry ME Magazine, a bridal magazine published by the Bangor Daily News, agreed to be a major sponsor of the expo.
