Rockland council to interview city manager candidates

By Stephen Betts, BDN Staff

ROCKLAND, Maine — The City Council is scheduled to interview seven candidates for city manager this week.

The seven candidates were selected from 34 people who applied for the job. Mayor Brian Harden said at least two of the candidates are from outside Maine.

One of those out-of-state candidates will be interviewed through the Internet video phone service Skype. The interviews on Wednesday evening will be held at the Samoset Resort in Rockport because that facility has a large video screen for the councilors to use.

The mayor said if the council schedules second interviews with either of the out-of-state candidates, the council will need to discuss whether to help pay for travel. He said the council could decide after Wednesday’s interviews who should be brought back for second interviews.

Rockland Finance Director Tom Luttrell has served as interim manager since Rosemary Kulow left in October to take the job as town manager in Poland. Luttrell did not apply for the long-term post.
