FREEMAN TOWNSHIP, Maine — A woman was killed in a car crash Sunday night in Freeman Township in Franklin County, according to police.

Rebecca Maiuri, 20, was traveling alone in her Buick sedan when she struck a telephone pole on Route 145, Franklin County Sheriff’s Cpl. Kenneth Charles said in a statement.

The release did not indicate Maiuri’s hometown, and the accident remains under investigation Monday afternoon.

Maiuri was traveling south on Route 145 when her vehicle left the roadway and hit the utility pole head-on, Charles said. Mairui reportedly was traveling at a high rate of speed and lost control of the car. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
