BIDDEFORD — Kelley Paradis sank the second of two free throws with 3.5 seconds to play Wednesday night, lifting the University of New England to a 76-75 women’s basketball victory over Bates at Beaudry Gym.
Paradis, a former Nokomis High School standout, scored a game-high 23 points to pace the 7-2 Nor’easters. Margo Russell (11 rebounds) and Kelly Coleman tallied 15 points each.
Meredith Kelly paced the 5-6 Bobcats from Lewiston with 18 points. Brianna Hawkins netted 15 points and Molly Brown added 10.
Colby 72, WIT 39
At Wadsworth Gym in Waterville, the 23rd-ranked Mules built a 45-23 halftime advantage on their way to their eighth win in nine games.
Aarika Ritchie sparked a balanced effort with 14 points for Colby, while Jil Vaughan and Rachael Mack tallied 12 points and 12 rebounds each. Jacky McLaughlin and Kelly Potvin added nine points apiece.
Kendra Kerr paced Wentworth Institute of Technology (0-9) with 14 points.
Houghton 84, UMFK 62
At Fort Kent, Kristen Moose topped a list of four double-figure scorers with 24 points to power the Highlanders to victory.
Jennifer Hudson scored 15 points, Megan Sampson netted 12 and Michelle Persons added 11 for 7-4 Houghton College.
Arcilla Jeffers led the University of Maine-Fort Kent with 13 points. Maliesha Caesar contributed 12 points and Jennfier Colpitts provided 11 for the 1-7 Bengals.
Houghton 75, UMFK 58
At Fort Kent, Michael Munoz’s 16 points helped lead the Highlanders past the Bengals in nonconference action.
Andrew Makori provided 13 points and Chris Confair chipped in with 10 for 6-6 Houghton College.
Jeremy Thomas paced the University of Maine-Fort Kent (8-6) with 17 points.
