Trailer park traffic stop results in two arrests

By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

OLD TOWN, Maine — Police arrested a Bangor man and an Old Town woman on several charges Wednesday after a traffic stop at a local mobile home park.

Old Town police Officer James Fearon was at Regency Trailer Park when he saw a vehicle without license plates drive by and pulled it over, Old Town police Sgt. Michael Hashey said Thursday.

When he did, he learned that the driver, 22-year-old Benjamin Hatfield of Bangor, was driving with an expired learner’s permit and without insurance, violations that constituted a violation of the conditions of his bail from a prior arrest. Hatfield was placed under arrest, Hashey said.

Hatfield’s 18-year-old passenger, Jessica Bryden, also was arrested after police found several oxycodone tablets, a small plastic bag containing a powdery white residue and several empty bags in her purse, Hashey said.

Police obtained a warrant to search Bryden’s residence and turned up drug paraphernalia as well as a sizable amount of what appeared to be the synthetic drug bath salts — enough to fill about a fourth of a sandwich-size plastic bag, Hashey said.

The bath salts were confiscated, as were a handgun, two swords, a hatchet and a Taser found in the vehicle the pair were riding in, he said.

Additional charges may be filed, he said.
