ORRINGTON, Maine — An accident involving one vehicle and a telephone pole Friday afternoon has resulted in the closure of Route 15, according to police.

Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Fish said Megan McCrum, 28, of Orrington was headed southbound when she left the road and struck a telephone pole.

“Her vision was obscured by the setting sun and she subsequently left the road and struck a pole,” Fish said.

McCrum was not injured and did not require medical attention, according to Fish, but her vehicle suffered significant damage.

“There’s enough damage to the telephone pole that the pole needs to be replaced,” Fish said.

The accident occurred just south of Center Drive, and traffic is currently being detoured around the scene while Bangor Hydro crews replace the pole, according to Fish.

With construction also occurring in the area, authorities determined the best option was to close the road and detour traffic onto Center Drive, Johnson Mill Road and Swett’s Pond Road, Fish said.
