Dexter Town Council selects new recreation director

DEXTER, Maine — The Town Council has appointed James Bell Jr. of Sangerville as the town’s new recreation director.

Bell, a Dexter Regional High School graduate, also serves as Sangerville’s recreation director.

Bell was one of 15 candidates who applied for the position. His prior experience and willingness to be a volunteer made a favorable impression on interim Town Manager Shelley Watson.

“He started in Sangerville as a volunteer and has so much enthusiasm, which really stood out in the interview. I thought he’d be a really good fit for us,” Watson said.

As the recreation director, Bell is responsible for organizing both youth and adult programs. He is currently busy developing youth basketball and an adult volleyball program. A full-time recreational director position has been a goal of Bell’s for a long time.

“This is something that I’ve always wanted to do,” Bell said. “I’m very happy doing this and I’m excited about expanding the programs we already have.”

Bell is going to remain as Sangerville’s recreation director. His duties there mostly

involve maintaining the fields, so he doesn’t foresee them interfering with his Dexter duties.

Bell is seeking public input on adding more programs or improving the current ones. He encourages anyone who wants to become involved with the recreation program to call him at 270-0195.
