Bangor man facing theft charge after trip to Shaw’s

BANGOR, Maine — A local man was arrested Saturday evening after he allegedly walked out of Shaw’s supermarket on Main Street with a cart of items he had not paid for.

John Devine Jr., 20, was arrested on charges of theft and violating the conditions of his release from a prior arrest, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Tuesday.

According the arrest report, the assorted grocery items in Devine’s cart amounted to $51.43. Devine, who was taken to the Penobscot County Jail after his arrest, since has been released on bail, a jail official confirmed.
