TURNER — Jake Ouellette scored on a shovel pass from Jordan Hersom for a two-point conversion in the second overtime Friday night to lift top-seeded Leavitt to a 22-21 victory over No. 2 Mt. Blue of Farmington in the Eastern Maine Class B football championship game.
The Hornets (11-0) advance to play the winner of Saturday’s Western Maine championship game between Mountain Valley of Rumford and Wells.
Izaiha Tracy had scored on a short run to give Mt. Blue (9-2) the lead in the second overtime. The Cougars kicked the PAT to make it 21-14.
Leavitt scored shortly thereafter on Brian Bedard’s touchdown catch, then called timeout and lined up for an apparent kick. The Hornets called another timeout, then hit on the winning conversion.
Both teams had fumbled in the first overtime, Mt. Blue first. Leavitt had the ball at the 5-yard line with a chance to win it with a short field goal, but also fumbled.
Hersom put Leavitt on top with a 2-yard run in the first quarter, but Mt. Blue countered with Jordan Whitney’s 20-yard scoring toss to Cam Sennick in the second quarter.
The Cougars went on top in the third on Whitney’s TD run, but Jake Ouellette scored for Leavitt on the first play of the fourth quarter to tie it at 14-14.
