BANGOR, Maine — A Lincoln County woman was arrested late Sunday afternoon after she refused to pay for nearly $60 worth of merchandise from Shaw’s Supermarket on Main Street in Bangor, according to police.

Bonnie French, 39, of Somerville took off running from the store when confronted by security, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.

He said she ran into the parking lot and hid under a red pickup truck. Officer Jason Linkletter placed her under arrest.

The merchandise, valued at $59.14, was recovered, Edwards said. French was charged with theft and violation of a condition of release. She also refused to give Linkletter her name and date of birth, resulting in an additional charge, Edwards said.

French was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where she remained Monday morning.
