OWLS HEAD, Maine — A woman was arrested and charged with operating under the influence Saturday night after she drove into a house, causing an estimated $30,000 in damage to the home.

Haley Watkinson, 25, of Owls Head told police that she had been driving south on Route 73 when she looked down to find her cellphone and crossed into the ditch on the other side of the road, according to a press release from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Watkinson hit a fire hydrant and then the house at the intersection of Route 73 (Ingraham Drive) and Knowlton Avenue. The house is owned by Steven and Caitlin Taylor of Massachusetts, but was vacant at the time of the crash, according to the police press release.

She was alone in the vehicle and was not injured, officials said.

Watkinson was arrested at the accident scene and then taken to Knox County Jail in Rockland.

The vehicle, which was not identified, was totaled. The crash remains under investigation by Deputy David Johnson.
