SORRENTO, Maine — Police in Hancock County are looking for two girls who have gone missing in recent days in apparently separate incidents.
One girl, missing 14-year old Hanna Snider, has been missing since Saturday, according to Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesman Stephen McCausland.
McCausland said Monday that Snider may have left home with a man she met on the website myyearbook.com, which he described as an online dating site. She left her home sometime Saturday night and her parents realized she was gone the next morning. She sent her parents a text message on Sunday to tell them she was OK and would be home later, McCausland said.
Snider is described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs approximately 170 pounds. She has brown eyes and dirty blonde hair with a touch of red.
Information posted by the Ellsworth Police Department on its Facebook page indicates that Snider last was seen wearing jeans and a winter jacket with a furry hood.
Anyone with information about where Snider might be is asked to call Maine State Police at 866-2122.
In the second case, police are looking for a 17-year old Bar Harbor girl whose last confirmed sighting was week ago on Monday, Oct. 24.
The girl, Amethyst Geiger, is about 5 feet, 2 inches tall and weighs approximately 115 pounds, according to Bar Harbor police Officer Thom Tardiff. Her parents have not seen her for the past week.
Tardiff said Monday that Geiger might be wearing a blonde wig but that her natural hair color is brown. He said police do not know what sort of clothing Geiger may be wearing.
“She had a backpack and sleeping bag with her, supposedly,” Tardiff said.
He said local police have been in contact with the Bangor Police Department and are investigating leads in the Bangor area.
Anyone who may have information about Geiger’s location is asked to contact the Bar Harbor Police Department at 288-3391. Information on that case is available on the department’s Facebook page.
