Fire displaces Sangerville family

SANGERVILLE, Maine — A local family was being assisted by the American Red Cross on Tuesday night after a fire damaged their modern ranch home on French’s Mills Road.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been asked to investigate the cause of the fire that damaged the home of David and Melissa Walsh late Tuesday afternoon. The home received fire damage as well as smoke and water damage, according to Sangerville Fire Chief Chuck Beane.

Beane said Melissa Walsh was home with the couple’s two children when the fire started about 4:40 p.m. He said it appeared that the fire started in the chimney and followed duct work the entire length of the ceiling of the one-story home. The home had a finished basement and was insured, according to Beane.

Guilford and Dexter firefighters assisted Sangerville firefighters at the scene and Monson firefighters remained on standby at the Sangervillle fire station.

Correction: Incorrect information was provided to the BDN for an early version of this story. Homeowner Melissa Walsh is not pregnant; rather, it is her daughter who is pregnant.
