BANGOR, Maine — A Charleston man who was sent to federal prison in 2006 for pictures of prepubescent boys engaged in sex acts found on his computer years ago, was arrested with pornography again Sunday, a jail official said.

Carey E. Gonyer, 43, who must register on the Maine Sex Offender Registry, was brought into the Penobscot County Jail at around 10:10 a.m., charged with felony possession of sexually explicit materials.

“He has a $25,000 cash bail,” the jail official said.

Details about how he came to the attention of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office law enforcers or whether the pornographic images he was caught with included images of children was not available Sunday night.

Gonyer was sentenced in U.S. District Court in December 2006 to 2 1/2 years in federal prison for possession of child pornography, and also had three years of supervised release tacked on to be served after his prison sentence was completed, according to prior Bangor Daily News stories.

If convicted of the felony possession of sexually explicit materials charge, Gonyer could face a penalty of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.

BDN reporter Judy Harrison contributed to this story.
