Colby women shut out USM soccer team


WATERVILLE — Emily Brook made three saves for her fifth shutout of the season and Nikki Pickering broke a scoreless tie 9:56 into the second half as the Colby College women’s soccer team improved to 5-4-1 with a 2-0 win over Southern Maine Wednesday..
Pickering assisted on Anna Papadellis’ insurance goal with 1:27 remaining.
Kate Laxson assisted on Pickering’s goal.
Kat Rothe made five saves for 2-11 Southern Maine.

UM-Fort Kent 4, UM-Machias 0
At Machias, Theresa Biggs scored two goals and assisted on another, all in the first half, to pace the Bengals to victory.
Jamie Nadeau scored one goal and Victoria Dubois-Iredale added an assist for the University of Maine-Fort Kent. Sydney Proctor made three saves on six shots.
Stephanie Wunderley made six saves on 16 shots for UMaine-Machias.

Men’s Soccer
UM-Fort Kent 6, UM-Machias 0
At Machias, Phathizwe Sacolo scored three goals, all in the first half, to propel the Bengals to victory over the Clippers.
Jack Petrie, Wilfried Monthe and Kennard Brown scored one goal apiece for the University of Maine-Fort Kent. David Girouard and Bryan Piaseczny combined to make seven saves on 12 shots.
Luis Herrera made six saves on 32 shots for UMaine-Machias.

Bates 2, Husson 1
At Lewiston, Ethan Hirshberg’s second goal of the game, coming with 30:40 remaining in regulation, snapped a 1-1 tie and gave Bates its third win against six losses.
Nick Ford and Ethan Kass each had an assist and Brian Goldberg made two saves on 12 shots.
Phil Frost scored an unassisted goal 2:16 into the second half for 7-5-1 Husson and Mason Smith made eight saves on 26 shots.

USM 1, UMF 0
At Gorham, freshman striker Mazen Aljari headed home Justin Lavertue’s cross five minutes into the first overtime to give the Huskies their third win against 10 losses.
It was Aljari’s third goal of the season and all three have been game-winners.
Freshman Alex Charette of Fort Kent made two saves on seven shots for his first career shutout.
Tennessee Peters made five saves on 10 shots for 6-6 UM-Farmington.

St. Joe’s 4, Worcester St. 0
At Standish, Zach Johnson scored two goals to lead the Monks to victory.
Ross Suleski and Fabrice Iraduha each added a goal for 9-4 St. Joe’s and Kenny Grade made four saves.
Evan Wilga made two saves in the first half for 4-6-2 Worcester State and Emil Dedo made four in the second half.

Field hockey
Bowdoin 6, UM-Farmington 0
At Brunswick, Katie Herter and Cathleen Smith each scored two goals to help the Polar Bears remain undefeated.
Elizabeth Clegg and Pam Herter each notched a goal for 9-0 Bowdoin College and Ella Curren provided two assists. Kayla Lessard and Hannah Gartner teamed up to make one save on one shot.
Felisha Taylor and Curran Brierley combined to make 12 saves on 34 shots for 6-5 UMaine-Farmington.

Salem State 1, St. Joseph’s 0
At Salem, Mass., Nicole Roy scored off an assist from Nicole Bisbee with 28.8 seconds left in the game to give Salem State the victory.
Michaela Boyer made 10 saves for 5-7 Salem State and Meaghan Johnson made four for 8-4 St. Joe’s.
