BANGOR, Maine — Police who were called to First Street on Monday afternoon when a resident reported people doing drugs caught up with a local transient who had a variety of diverted prescription drugs, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Tuesday.

Officer Jason Stuart saw two people drinking out of a brown paper bag at around 5 p.m. and stopped to question them. Stuart discovered that one of the men, Lee Meservie, 46, a Bangor transient who once lived in Charleston, had a pill bottled filled with “several different types of prescriptions” and marijuana, the sergeant said.

Meservie, who was out on bail, was charged with unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and violating conditions of his bail. He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and remained there Tuesday afternoon, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
