GREENWOOD, Maine — A man and a woman from Cumberland are in the hospital with serious injuries after a head-on collision Thursday night, according to police.

Matthew Wallace and his female passenger, Freja Folce, were struck head-on by a van during heavy rain last night. A 9-year-old girl in the back seat escaped serious injuries.

State Police spokesman Stephen McCausland said in a release that Wallace and Folce were transported to Maine Medical Center following the crash, and the girl, Zoe Folce, Freja Folce’s niece, suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the van, Corey Hill of Saugus, Mass., was not injured.

According to the release, Hill lost control of his van on the wet road as it passed another vehicle, and then slammed into Wallace’s car. There is no indication that alcohol was involved, but the accident remains under investigation.
