Maine honor guard performs 7,000th funeral rites

AUGUSTA, Maine — The Maine Army National Guard’s honor guard is being recognized for performing its 7,000th funeral honors ceremony for fallen comrades.

State Rep. David Cotta on Tuesday is presenting a legislative acknowledgement in recognition of the guard. The presentation will take place in the State House Hall of Flags.

Gov. Paul LePage and Maj. Gen. John W. Libby, who heads the Maine National Guard, are scheduled to speak.
