BANGOR, Maine — An intoxicated California man was arrested Saturday afternoon near the Bangor Mall after he was told to put down his beer, but kept on drinking, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.

Silas Minton, 28, was found at around 2:25 p.m. by Officer Joe Baillargeon near Super Shoes on Stillwater Avenue, the sergeant said. The California man was warned to stop drinking in public and was asked to pick up his trash, he said.

Baillargeon “watched him as he walked back, get another beer out of the trash and drink it,” Edwards said.

Minton was arrested for drinking in public and criminal trespassing and was taken to Penobscot County Jail. He was released from jail Monday afternoon, a jail official said.
