Maine women open ice hockey season with win

ORONO — Missy Denk scored two goals as the Maine Black Bears opened the season with a convincing 6-0 women’s ice hockey victory over the Sacred Heart Pioneers Friday at Alfond Arena.
Myriam Croussette posted a goal and two assists for UMaine, while Danielle Ward, Melissa Gagnon and Katy Massey provided a goal and an assist apiece. Jennifer More provided two assists, while Brittany Dougherty, Dawn Sullivan and Brianne Kilgour added one each.
Brittany Ott and Candice Currier made seven saves each for the Bears.
Alexius Schutt came up with 57 saves for Sacred Heart.
